@foodasmedicine Y’all… I just found the Holy Grail of regenerative farming in Southeast Oklahoma. Freedom Acre Farms in Durant—real regenerative produce, and BIG scale. This is like finding a needle in a haystack… or rare earth metals in your backyard. Huge shoutout to Evan and Sarah—your vision, grit, and soil-smarts blew me away. This is how we grow the future of food. Oklahoma, let’s GROW! #FreedomAcreFarms #RegenerativeAg #FoodIsMedicine #SoilToSoul #FreshRx #OklahomaFarmTok ♬ Country Girl - Tonio Armani
In March of 2020 I moved to Durant, Oklahoma to lay low while the world locked down. I had an interest in finding some locally grown food and ended up at the Durant Farmers Market where I met Evan Rowland from Freedom Acres Farm. He began teaching me how to farm and by 2021 we were running a full-scale produce operation, feeding hogs, moving cattle, setting up hotwires, gathering eggs, cutting firewood, and so much more. Since then, we have done nothing but produce food all year long. The store on the farm has been open with produce every week of the years for at least 4 years now. Next August Freedom Acres will go to seasonal hours to focus on summer crops and allow for farm maintenance in the winter, at that point I will be producing the same crops on our farm. We will be making slight adjustments to the model that will be announced in the Spring of 2027, but we will be offering a limited number of CSA Groups throughout Bryan County and more.
